SummaryA special commissioned design for the Cowes Torquay Powerboat Race 1965.
Designed by Colin Mudie to fit into the family sports boat classifications.
Max Aikin conceived the race to improve the offshore seaworthiness, design and general overall standards of the production family offshore powerboats. With prizes for the Concors d’elegance best/smartest interior, fuel economy, lowest powered finisher and other awards. These were meant to inspire a whole new industry, which they did with many entries and Sandpiper is a unique example.
She has a wonderful interior as you can see from the photographs.

MachineryTwin Cummins VT8 diesels of 220 HP each. These have been rebuilt. Driving through twin Walter V drive gearboxes to twin shafts & bonze propellers.
Twin bronze rudders, with hydraulic steering. Twin lever controls to the gearboxes & engines.
